Over the last several weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside the Conor Lynch Foundation to help promote its two upcoming events dedicated to raising the safety and awareness of pedestrians, runners, cyclists and young drivers. Financial Profiles is proud to be a sponsor of the Foundation and its important cause.
The Foundation was established by Jeri Dye Lynch, president of Pinecrest Schools, who lost her son Conor on October 19, 2010, during National Teen Safe Driving Week. The 16-year-old was killed instantly by a distracted and unlicensed teen driver who failed to yield while Conor was crossing Woodman Avenue in Sherman Oaks, Calif., with his high school cross country team.
This year marks the second anniversary of his death, and the Foundation will host the 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk In Honor of Conor event on Sunday, October 14 at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park, 14230 Magnolia Blvd., Sherman Oaks, Calif. The race was a massive success last year, as more than 1,500 participants and volunteers came out to raise money for the non-profit’s new and existing programs.
The Foundation has also teamed with the Auto Club of Southern California for the Teen Driver Safety Fair. This free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 20 at Notre Dame High school, 13645 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks. Teens and parents will learn about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving through interactive activities.
The 5K and Fair coincide with the 6th Annual National Teen Safe Driving Week (October 14-20) and the Los Angeles Teen Safe Driving Week, which was recently dedicated in honor of Conor by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors.
